The Marathon Continues – Nipsey Hussle

It’s been 12 months since the passing of West Coast rapper Nipsey Hussle, yet his legend is still alive and well not just through his music – although he did win two posthumous Grammy’s back in January, but also through the impact and legacy he left on his communities and those lives he came in contact with.

2020 has already been a year that we just want to forget and reboot. From bushfires across the world, to lives lost in tragic circumstances and now of course the one in a one-hundred year COVID-19 pandemic – it’s been a tough one, but, like Nipsey famously said – The Marathon Continues. We have to look for the silver linings in these circumstances and to see the continued good work from those keeping the Hussle Legacy alive, it buoys the soul.

We all saw the famous murals, Russell Westbrook recorded an iconic 60-20-20 triple double and still, 12 months on we are talking about the gang cease-fires that occurred, the giving back to the local community, how important he was to a lot of people and just how much of a devoted and loving partner / fiance and father he was. This is about WAY more than music.

It seems poignant now that while we are all locked down, odds stacked against us and every reason to be selfish – we are reminded through the one year anniversary of Nipsey’s death, that we are more than ourselves. Nipsey’s death didn’t stop the good work, COVID-19 won’t stop the good work – but it is a timely reminder that The Marathon Continues – and just what part we can all play in this.

Reach out to someone, send a message or Facetime, for aspiring artists – SHARE their links and tracks, if you have capacity to – buy some merch or their record, if you aren’t financial, stream / follow / subscribe / share. There is no better time than now to remember that music can bring us all so much closer and share a common healing and empowerment. RIP Nipsey. #TheMarathonContinues
