The third collaboration of Napoleon Da Legend and Giallo Point (after Coup D’Etat in 2018 and the sequel in 2019) is a banger. It’s a really tight and well put together album which you do expect having heard their previous collaborations over the years. Street Universe is probably the best since 2018, as GP’s production sets a brilliant canvas for NDL to narrate his street tales.
While a little more laid back in nature than NDL’s other release in 2020 ‘Chikara‘ it’s a really enjoyable marriage. It’s punchy with no fluff which is what you need to do with a 36 minute jawn and Nap is still as sharp and as relevant as ever. He also enlists some really solid features to help break up the lo-fi kind of vibe – which Sicknature does REALLY well on ‘Olive Branch’.
But for the most part, this is the Napoleon Da Legend x Giallo Point show and we are front row for this bad boy. A special mention also goes out to the album artwork that really has that dark, eerie, atmospheric yet real vibe. If a picture paints a thousand words, this album cover matches the lyrical content to perfection.
Bangers: Olive Branch, Bloodless Coup, Better Off Living (shouts to El Gant on this one!)
Score: 8 / 10. The only knock on this is that it just doesn’t have the ‘peaks’ of some other releases this year. It is just consistently brilliant from start to finish which isn’t a bad thing at all, I just love a good headliner or key moment.
