M-Dot Dining in Dystopia

Dining In Dystopia‘ is the latest album from blue collar Bostonian emcee M-Dot and without giving too much away in the opening lines, the follow up to ‘Ego and the Enemy‘ is pure, raw, dope hip hop and needs to be added to your rotation, playlists and ‘best of 2022’ album lists.

The lyrically dense offering is one of the best projects of the year so far, for a multitude of reasons. There is a pride in this work that you can feel through the headphones. It’s not just the razor sharp pen game that M-Dot continues to showcase, it’s the choice of subject matter, the calibre of featured artists, the cohesiveness of the product overall and the way that M-Dot and co, seamlessly blend the iconic street sound of the 90’s and 2000’s with the modern day soundscape. As a boom bap fanatic but not one ‘those’ old heads, this sits in the perfect listening pocket. The beats, the cuts, the samples….. this is one hell of an album from a production standpoint.

Lyrically, M-Dot continues to not only sharpen his pen and expand his wordplay and content, but his delivery and flow is getting better and better. It’s authentic and natural now, where you can feel the passion and energy without it taking away from the bars or beats. That maturation as an artist is why – as good as M-Dot’s catalogue is already – that ‘Dining In Dystopia‘ is the best yet and we can see plenty more killer albums in the future.

When you can appear on tracks with Conway the Machine (Neck Tie), Kool G Rap (Decadence), Celph Titled, Big Shug and Esoteric (Thunder Slap), RJ Payne (Wrath Of The Titans) and Elzhi & Ras Kass (Reaganomics) and not only hold your own BUT have people debating who had the hottest bars, you know you are really on point with the pen, and this is what ‘Dining In Dystopia‘ is….. M-Dot doing what he does, to the highest level and giving hip hop heads no choice but to tune in, listen and nod their heads.

Bangers: Reaganomics, Neck Tie, Wrath of the Titans, Blood Sweat & Tears, Ricochet

Score: 9.5 / 10. M-Dot (and a big shoutout the Rev & Mayhem from the EMS crew!) has one hell of an album here. The sound is so authentic that it straddles the golden era and modern era with bravado and there is something for all hip hops heads, without anything being forced or out of place. From start to finish, the listener is engaged and treated to some of the best hip hop in years. I thought ‘Ego and the Enemy‘ would be tough to top, but M-Dot has elevated his game.
