Judge the Disciple Espresso Depresso

Judge the Disciple teams up with Mathias from CLOAQxDAGGER to drop the superb 6 track EP ‘Espresso Depresso‘. We gave you all a taste off the top with ‘Dynamite Candles and now you get to experience the full-flavoured fix. ‘The Other Side‘ starts things off with a really funky vibe due to the horns before Judge cruises over the boom bap joint effortlessly dropping knowledge. ‘Dynamite Candles‘ is the second track which we already know is fire, but builds the listening experience on the back of the opener, and then ‘Weary‘ hits the headphones with some real energy in the delivery of dope lyrics. The track is a real head nodder and Judge paints some verbal pictures with a well-crafted joint.

Next up is ‘Kissing The Sky‘ where Mathias brings some killer guitar to subtly set this track off while the drums keep those neck muscles under tension. The effortlessness and smooth delivery of this track is exceptional and it creates some palpable feeling with the flow and message. ‘Down to Go‘ has a moodier soundscape that melts along in the background of the more invigorated flow, and the hook comes in and it’s just haunting yet so smooth and robust. The final track ‘Patch‘ deliberately brings a little more energy to finish the EP with some vibrancy and the CxD production really breathes life into this dusty boom bap number.

This little 6-pack does exactly what it sets out to do. It brings a versatile producer in Mathias and a masterful emcee in Judge the Disciple together, to create a sublte and smooth blend of different pcokets of hip hop. We get the traditional boom bap sound yet done differently and with silky undertones, infused with soul and funk throughout. Judge drops his vernacular in a myriad of ways to convey the meaning and feeling of each track. This is an EP you can genuinely feel.

Take 15 minutes out of your day to experience this earthy and authentic hip hop blend.
