ethemadassassin carter n newton

We told you to keep checking for them, and now after we brought you ‘Greatness, we can officially review the full length offering from ethemadassassin & Seven Da Pantha. ‘Carter N Newton: The Field Report‘ draws inspiration from the 1997 classic debut ‘The War Report‘ by Capone N Noreaga and the West Coast transplants combine their respective aliases (Seven Da Pantha as Young Bunchy Carter and ethemadassassin as Gram Newton) to form their version of CNN to take ‘The War Report’ into ‘The Field’.

This isn’t an Elzhi / Elmatic deal (sidenote – how dope is THAT album!), instead this is essentially another installment – and Seven & E do that damn thang justice. The chemistry between the two emcees is evident throughout the entire project as they work together to ensure a cohesive and razor sharp product, not just a bunch of dope verses stitched together to make an album. There is a genuine belief in the skills of the other, and that shines through as this ‘concept’ album explores a host of different topics, and drops mad knowledge on listeners.

Production-wise, this is a really crisp offering too. The first single or bonus track ‘Greatness’ was a D.R.U.G.S Beats produced joint, but the remainder of the album has been handled by Slidebeatz, a Polish boom bap producer who has production credits for killer underground emcees such as Planet Asia, Illa Ghee, Supreme Cerebral and XP the Marxman. We get a real ‘ground zero’ feel through the simplicity of the traditional boom bap, but it’s relevant and modern and fits the content hand in glove. We move through subdued, to downright eerie – it’s a dope soundtrack for the verbal barrage.

Bangers: We Are Not The Same, Hunger Pains, Push the Line, Getting Over

Score: 9 / 10. Really enjoyed this album from the entire idea behind it, to the dynamic energy between ethemadassassin and Seven Da Pantha. The production was fantastic and varied enough while staying in that traditional boom bap feel which aligns well with the CNN ‘War Report’ era. They don’t play for big stakes, they play for the whole cow….. get this in your rotation now.
