If there is any positive or silver lining in the lockdown situation faced worldwide due to the pandemic, it is the fact that we are getting an enormous amount of quality music while artists have time and can’t do shows etc. I say this because it’s always been a full-time hobby staying up on the world of underground hip hop, but 2020 has made it near impossible – especially when we’re here reviewing another Buckwild joint having just given a perfect score to his July release ‘Fully Loaded‘.

We know Buckwild’s D.I.T.C pedigree, we know the catalogue / stat sheet stuffing discography of dope AF joints he’s produced for some of the greatest artists of all-time, and now we know he’s not even close to finished. On the back of Fully Loaded, Buck drops ‘Music is My Religion’ and it’s another flawless victory. The album kicks off with the scorching ‘Bronx Bars Banned‘ and I get a little emotional hearing Fred the Godson’s iconic flow and crafty metaphors lace the beat.

Some of the emcees on this joint, are also in career-best form. Flee Lord is fast becoming one of the ILLEST underground emcees, Jay Royale is on point, Ransom is peaking and guys like Smif-N-Wessun just never fall off. The guest list is A class, roll out the red carpet type shit – and every feature delivers. It’s literally a 38 minute, 13 track joint where you won’t skip a second.

The versatility of Buckwild is once again on display. Yes we all know the concrete cracking, Bronx style street soundtracks, but he also mixes it up with some haunting, eerie soundscapes that allow cats like Willie The Kid, King Bub Rock, Rim Da Villin etc to really flow effortlessly over the production and drop gems. As much as I love that gritty NY sound, I do appreciate well done, boom bap in any form and Buckwild has it down to an art. And this album is a masterpiece that you need this in your library now.

Bangers: Bronx Bars Banned, Love of the Streets, Bourbon Street Gutter Water, Survivor.

Score: 9.5 / 10. It’s just a shade behind the ‘Fully Loaded’ release for me, but it’s still an epic album that is getting MAJOR replay value from me – and that’s saying something in the climate where there is more dope music than available hours to listen! In short, cop it. Spin it. Repeat.
