If the music has Planet Asia’s name on it, you know it’s going to be good hip hop, and that’s exactly what we get with the latest album from the iconic emcee ‘Block Shaman’. The 9 track offering features fantastic soundscapes and top tier lyricism, as well as sharing the mic with some dope underground cats like Rome Streetz, Styliztik Jones, Defari and others.
As with a lot of modern music, the production takes a lo-fi, cerebral, atmospheric vibe for the most part. In this sense, DirtyDiggs is crushing this scene right now, his production is really riding this grimy, stripped back, obscure sample wave. Lyrically though, Planet Asia is still as sharp as ever and the crafting of his content as well as his powerful yet unassuming flow really bring this offering together nicely.
Clocking in at a palatable 30 minutes, this is a really easy listen. It may not ‘command’ the listener as some of PA’s previous albums have, but it’s still a dope, dusty, boom bap style joint for your playlist.
