Jafet Muzic 92

To acknowledge what is widely accepted as the birthday of hip hop – August 11, Jafet Muzic releases his second solo album of 2021. As a way of giving back the the culture that has given him so much, Jafet uses his own year of birth for the title of the album and drops a really solid project and showcasing his hard work and strength of craft.

The first point I want to make is how authentic and effortless this music seems. Not that it seems formulaic or ‘mailed in’ but you can tell that hip hop is just part of who Jafet is and it shows when he is delivering his bars, crafting a chorus and putting together a complete project. It really is an enjoyable listen because you can feel the positive-vibes and energy that has gone in to making the music.

Variety is the spice of life, and this album is one spicy offering. We get a blend of early 80’s hip hop, golden era 90’s dusty chops, and that modern boom bap – all of which ebb and flow their way throughout the 11 track offering. We get some fantastic keys and piano, really funky guitar riffs, obscure yet entertaining soundbytes – and dope bars. This is an album that is certainly worth the investment and will likely carve out a spot in your ‘go-to’ rotations.

Bangers: Might Be It, Can’t Wait, What You Want, Never Be The Same

Score: 8.5 / 10. A really enjoyable listen. Lyrically Jafet comes correct and gets the grey matter ticking over while still being relevant and entertaining. As mentioned, the varied production keeps each track fresh even after 5 or 6 listens and the story-telling, well crafted tales and sharp lyrics hit the right notes. Check it out.
