Marz One has been continually expanding his craft all year long, and now, alongside Skinny Bonez Tha Godfatha we get a fun, engaging and interesting project in ‘Tha Scheme of Things’. This seven track release has seriously solid boom bap undertones but it also uses a range of instruments to create a diverse and entertaining soundscape. Each track brings its own vibe and feel, and that is cohesively matched by the delivery and pen game of Marz.
Marz takes his time to craft his lyrics, putting together metaphors and wordplay to convey his experiences and thoughts in a different way to other emcees. There is an understated confidence in his cadence and craft on this project too, but that could also be another by-product of the enlivened chemistry we can hear between him and Bonez.
It may only be a handful of tracks, but that doesn’t take anything away from this release which packs a punch. The head doesn’t stop nodding from the moment you press play, and the rhymes ensure you stay engaged in the listen, scratching your head for a multitude of reasons from intricate bars to mic ripping just for fun.
