The first single from the upcoming posthumous DMX album titled ‘Exodus‘ has hit the hip hop community and it features the Dark Man teaming up with the Griselda crew. As you may expect, Swizz Beatz handles the production (alongside Avenue Beatz) as each emcee takes their time to shine behind the microphone on a track that was destined to partner up the old and the new wave of artists.

It’s eerie (and to be honest a little emotional) hearing the trademark scowl and gruff bark of DMX to kick off the track. It reminds me instantly of the first time I pressed play on ‘It’s Dark and Hell is Hot’. The Griselda trio kick things off first with Westside Gunn dropping a solid sixteen, then the Butcher comes and does what he does before Conway really ups the ante. We finally get X on his own track and he commands the microphone the very same way he did in his prime. Enigmatic, emotional and thoughtful bars delivered with passion and fire.

It’s only a few days away, but after half a dozen spins of this joint, I just can’t wait to see what the rest of the album is like. Before his passing, X was really turning it around and his appearance on the most recent Lox album, was a thing of beauty. Something tells me, even after just tuning in to one track, that Exodus is going to be something special. Swizz Beatz has labelled it a ‘masterpiece’ and we know we’re getting features from The Lox, Jay Z & Nas (on the same joint!), Snoop and more.
