Beneath the Surface is a series dedicated to underground artists who are on the grind and doing great things. Raw Side Hip Hop are huge supporters of REAL hip hop and those on the come up that are true to the culture.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month or so, by now the name Scrooge Owens should be synonymous with the banger ‘Arrest the Government’ a track that he absolutely bodied, and one that also featured underground kings Napoleon Da Legend, Mad Squablz & R.A the Rugged Man. It’s a big, punishing, boom bap track with a killer message and you can check it out below.

Scrooge Owens is far more than a one-hit wonder though, in fact he’s been on the scene for more than a minute and is highly respected for his realness and raw delivery. He’s stayed true to real hip hop and has provided underground anthems for the streets including a series of ‘King of NY’ mixtapes while also developing his own standing in the hip hop scene. Scrooge has gone on tour with R.A. The Rugged Man which then gave him the opportunity to start giving audiences more of his voice and his story.

So, what is the Scrooge Owens story? Man, it’s a epic journey of hard times, hard work and an undying belief in himself and music. Having lost his father at an early age, the Bronx native credits his Uncle for raising him and making him the man he is today. Scrooge also spent 8 years incarcerated, at one point facing the death penalty, which served as a wake up call and a second chance to really turn his love for music into something meaningful and worthwhile.

Having learnt the business side of music through a friend (an established DJ) Owens has been involved in booking some serious talent in the form of Jadakiss and Smif n Wessun among others. Opportunity knocked and Scrooge answered, as he commenced a series of the ‘King of NY’ mixtapes, but as the fans wanted more, he soon turned to jumping in the booth, behind the mic and into the headphones of the hip hop listener.

To date, Owens is polishing up his new mixtape “The Old Me”, working alongside Scott LaRock Jr., and bringing his roster of artists and promotional talents to Romania, with Matei Panchios. When he returns to the U.S, Owens will be full throttle in the studio working on his forthcoming album, “Dreams Of My Father”.

Make sure you go and give Scrooge a follow on Spotify to stay up to date with all the fire he’ll be dropping in 2020!
