Beneath the Surface is a series dedicated to underground artists who are on the grind and doing great things. Raw Side Hip Hop are huge supporters of REAL hip hop and those on the come up that are true to the culture.

If you’re up to date on your West Coast artists, there is every chance you may have heard of Kay Nine Tha Boss who has been putting in major work for a number of summers now. Having entered the rap game in the mid 2000’s, Kay Nine released his debut album ‘Reality Check’ independently and started some whispers on the rap scene out west.
After his 2010 debut, he swiftly followed it up with another album ‘The Backstreets’ which paired the Southern Cali emcee with a host of rap heavyweights, including West Coast legend Tash of Tha Alkaholiks on “Smokin’ & Drinkin'”, Butch Cassidy on the track ‘Fo Life’ and Jayo Felony on ‘Try Me’. Kay Nine’s single ‘On the Set’ dropped in the summer of 2013 and it got the people GOING!
In 2015, Kay Nine was featured in the XXL Freshman magazine and has since collaborated with several industry rappers including Spider Locc, Big Hutch, Kokane, Ice T, Kid Frost, Mozzy, Suga Free and Spice 1 who he signed with in May 2019 (to Thug World Music Group partnered with Sony The Orchard). Kay Nine is heavily regarded for his mix-tape ‘Cruise Control’ presented by DJ King Assassin (2Pac’s DJ and producer).
So, how the HELL is this cat still under the radar? We don’t know but it’s our job and our passion here at Raw Side Hip Hop to give props to the real ones – and Kay Nine Tha Boss is as real as they get. Check out his latest single & video ‘Champion’ for some West Coast heat. Then go and show this spitter some love and support on Facebook too.
